Surry Hills, Sydney: Man fights for life after falling from balcony

A man is fighting for life in hospital after he fell from a balcony while police visited a property near Sydney’s CBD.

Officers from the Surry Hills Police Area Command went to a Belvoir St residence about 11.30am on Thursday when they discovered the man had fallen from a balcony at the property.

The 51-year-old was treated by paramedics and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

Police were at the Surry Hills residence as part of an ongoing investigation when they heard an argument occurring inside the property.

It was only when officers entered the building that they found the 51-year-old had fallen off a balcony onto the street below.

Initial reports to police relating to the incident suggest the man’s fall was not suspicious.

A critical incident team has poured over the scene and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall, with a further independent review to be conducted.
