How You Can Save the Magic Kingdom!

The Magic Kingdom is in danger. I know this because the wizard Merlin personally told me. In fact, he told me that he needed my help. The dastardly and conniving Hades wants to transform the Magic Kingdom into his new summer home. He even sent his goons Pain and Panic to steal the Crystal of the Magic Kingdom, a mystical stone which protects the park from the forces of evil. Fortunately, Merlin prevented them from taking it. Unfortunately, the crystal was shattered and scattered around the park. Hades has teamed up with some of Disney’s most iconic villains (think Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Dr. Facilier among others) to find the pieces of the crystal.

Of course, stopping the forces of evil is hardly a one man job. Merlin needs your help too. You can lend your magical talents to the cause by playing Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, an interactive game in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

Here are five facts you need to know about the playing the game.

1. The Game Is Free
Guests can play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom for free. You sign up for the game at the Firehouse on Main Street U.S.A. When you sign up you’ll receive your first five cards, your map, and a brief bit of training. Each member of your party who wants to play will need to register. As long as you play a little on each visit you can continue to get free cards, but there is one requirement: you have to play at least one portal of the game the day you receive them. Don’t worry if you can’t complete an entire round. Just get started. Your magic band will hold your progress.

2. How to Play
You play by collecting cards and then using a map to find various interactive portals around the park. Once you find the portal your Magic Band will activate it, showing a short filmed sequence. At some stops, Merlin issues instructions. At others, villains appear. You fight them by holding out your “spell” cards. Different cards have different effects, and sometimes you’ll need to use more than one card to finish the fight. After completing a battle, you receive instructions on where to travel next.

If you complete the entire circuit of missions Merlin will name you a “Master Sorcerer.”

3. Collecting Cards
If the daily free cards aren’t enough for you, there are packs available for purchase in the Emporium Shop on Main Street U.S.A. There’s even a special imitation leather binder that you can purchase for extra card storage. It’s emblazoned with the Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom logo and contains plastic sheets to store your cards.

4. Special Cards
Some cards can only be acquired on special occasions. Guests attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party receive a holiday themed card. The cards change each year, so there will always be more to acquire.

5. Playing at Home
If you want to keep playing when you leave the park, don’t worry! If you purchase the supplement pack at the Emporium you will also receive a board game version of Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. Players select a villain to battle and then work together using their cards to reduce the fiend’s power to zero.

Anyway you choose to play, make sure you take the time to enjoy this bit of Disney fun. Good luck sorcerer. The Magic Kingdom needs you.
