She was born to Egyptian parents, Her father is Abdel Kader Kotb who was  a fossil energy specialist. Her mother is called Sameha. Hoda’s father died at the age of 51 in 1986.

Hoda attended the Fort Hunt High School and graduated in 1982. In 1986, Hoda Kotb graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism.
