Fancy a shag? How to master perfect bed-head hair | London Evening Standard

To start, there’s the cut. At its three London salons, Hari’s is championing a new chop, aptly named the shag cut. Taking inspiration from the iconic Coupe Sauvage, created in the early Seventies by Jean Louis David and popularised by the likes of David Bowie and Suzi Quatro, the cut focuses on creating texture by cutting into naturally dried hair to create a free-flowing, easy style. Think Jane Fonda in Klute meets a Nineties Meg Ryan, in a Freja Beha Erichsen sort of way. “We work with the hair’s natural movement, not against it. The finish should be simple and relaxed, allowing the cut to make the impression, not the styling,” says Hari’s creative director Craig Taylor, who believes the cut is ideal for the capital’s time-starved. “It’s a very London cut. Its relaxed nature means it looks effortlessly cool and the brief time needed for styling means the cut is perfect for busy women on the go. Our customers are always asking for something manageable and as wash-and-go as possible, so this cut really is designed for them.”
