In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Dr. Dean Archer was finally getting a new kidney. He didn’t want to accept one from his son. He tried to talk Sean out of it. He even tried to talk the doctor performing the procedure out of it. He did everything possible to prevent the surgery. The doctor didn’t believe he deserved a second chance at life or with his son.

When his ex-wife came to the hospital to stop the procedure, Archer was genuinely happy to see her. Something he couldn’t say at any other time in his life. He was hoping someone would finally tell him he doesn’t deserve a second chance. He got that with Leanne. Leanne Archer hates him. She doesn’t want her son to give up a kidney to the man that turned his back on him.

Sean hasn’t always been the great guy that he is now. He was an addict. He will always be an addict. It took him a lot of years to get clean. He only did so after he went to prison.

His father had cut all ties with him at one point because of his addiction and Archer now regrets taking that action. It had been hard on him to watch his son kill himself slowly through drugs. He distanced himself to protect himself. He now wants to be a part of Sean’s life and he reached out to his son while he was in prison. And before he needed a kidney transplant.

They were already working on repairing the relationship when Archer got injured on the job. He suffered a horrible beating. His kidney started to fail him and in spite of that he didn’t tell Sean that he needed a new kidney.

Dr. Asher told Sean about the new kidney. She knows that Sean will do everything possible to save his father. She also knows that Sean loves his dad and wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he didn’t save him. Asher tried to tell Archer that as well. Archer agreed to the surgery because of what she said to him. And then Leanne entered the picture.

Leanne was doing her best to destroy everything while the ED was struggling without Archer. Archer was Chief of the ED. He ran things. He hired people. Him being upstairs meant that Sharon Goodwin took control.

She even hired a new resident without his say so. The new girl has been asked to leave two other hospitals because of her tendency towards vigilante medicine. She ignored orders to treat the uninsured. She saved lives. She just burnt her career at two prestigious hospitals by doing so. Meaning Dr. Zola Ahmad could be rash.

Which is why Sharon agreed to a probationary status for the young woman. She could be fired at any minute for the next six months. Dr. Ahmad was a good doctor in the sense she didn’t hesitate to jump right into things. She had just finished getting hired by Sharon when she pitched in to help on a case.

She was assisting Dr. Marcel tonight. There were two people injured after both of their cars collided. One was a white woman who came in with her husband. Her husband wasn’t injured. He was simply a problem with the other person from the other car. The illegal immigrant.

Wade Martin called the cops after he heard the immigrant was asking for the cops. He must have gotten spooked because he then saw a cop and tried to report the immigrant for being in the country illegally. Well, he was the fool because the cop was there for the other man. He was being housed in a police station along with other immigrants that got sent to Chicago by the governor of Texas. Its why the man was asking for the police. Its where he stays. It’s where his friends are. He only left because he wasn’t feeling well and he wanted to go buy cold medicine.

All Wade did by dropping his status was tick off Dr. Ahmad. Dr. Ahmad was supposed to be supervised by Dr. Marcel, but their South American patient took a turn for the worst and he was in surgery. Ahmad eventually left the hospital without telling any supervisors. She found a bug bite on the patient.

She also saw that he was suffering from more than the flu. She then went to the police station to collect the other migrants from there. She brought back them back to the hospital and she was given her first warning by Marcel when he realized what she did.

Marcel told her that there better not be a second time she acts without supervision. He also looked at the migrants and they were being tested.

Wade’s wife was being moved to get her away from potentially infectious people. Only he didn’t see it that way. He saw it as the migrants getting preferential treatment. He made a big scene. He attacked Ahmad. Marcel had to restrain him before security escorted him out. And while Ahmad didn’t want to press charges, she still got yelled at for her stunt.

The ED was flooded with more patients. Maggie should really have been down there and she wasn’t. She was dealing with Leanne. Maggie understood Leanne. Maggie was going through a divorce herself because Ben wanted out. She was having a hard time in mediation and so she got where Leanne was coming from.

Leanne thought she needed to protect Sean from Archer when really that’s her own biasness. She didn’t want the surgery to go ahead because she had problems with Archer. Archer wasn’t the best husband. She wasn’t the perfect wife. They both made mistakes.

Once Leanne acknowledge that, she stopped trying to hinder the surgery. It went ahead like planned. Archer got his new kidney and Sean was happy to help. Maggie made that possible.

It also gave her the push she needed to stop hindering Ben during their divorce proceedings. Both Maggie and Archer weren’t in the ED when Dr. Charles noticed something concerning regarding Dr. Ripley. Ripley had a patient come in that believed she had metastatic cancer. She thought she was dying and she signed a DNR.

Ripley supposedly couldn’t find this DNR. He intubated the patient after she lost consciousness. He also felt for sure that she didn’t have cancer. He thought it was a fungal infection.

He manipulated her medical proxy who was her sister. He convinced the sister that the patient gave her consent when really Ripley caused the patient to spasm at the right moment. And he was right. It wasn’t cancer. It was a fungal infection. It was just the way he went about things was concerning and so Charles warned him in the nicest possible to not risk his medical license by doing that again.

And Ahmad was right. The migrants had a form of tuberculosis. She was also right about Sheryl Martin. Wade’s wife. She asked for an MRI and an MRI showed that Sheryl has cancer. It was already spreading and so they caught it right in time. Dr. Ahmad reminded everyone of Dr. Halstead. They just had to help her realize its easier to get permission before she goes off on her own.

THE END!
